The Internet Terrorist, that’s how they’ll call the 17 year-old child who was arrested yesterday for alleged defacement of several Israeli Websites. Of course, Israeli Law Enforcement agencies all interacted in order to find this Child with no less investment than it took to entrap the latest paedophiles from the famous reality TV Show “To Catch a Predator : Israeli Edition“. The Computer Crimes Unit, alongside the Israeli Secret Service, all operated a covert operation in order to entrap an Israeli Minor.

Is this more than just the regular childish acts that a seventeen year old child is doing just to impress his friends and to scare the boredom in the everyday life? Another prankster was Ehud Tenenbaum, which was known as “The Analyzer” and was sentenced for eighteen months months after hacking into the department of defense on US Servers. (CA 71227/01 State v. Tenenbaum)
Tenenbaum was not the only one who hacked secret website; A few years ago, the Mossad’s website was hacked, where the hacker was cleared from any crime when the magistrate cour t explained that merely attempting to hack into a website for security reasons is not an intrusion. (C 3047 State v. Mizrachi).
The Israeli Legal system has attempted to forgive naughty children who hacked for security purposes (Tenenbaum, for example, is not a security expert in the private market) the question is how will the courts understand the same childish motives when it comes to Muslims. Will they be considered as minor as these “Merely attempting to check the websites’ security” cases where the Israeli Criminal System had faced until now?
The current case is hardly the case of “State v. Mizrachi”, in Mizrachi it was concluded that there was only a attempt at a security check. I this case the kid did defacing, that is not only intrusion but also alteration. So being Muslim is hardly relevent in this case unless they charge him with hate crimes because of the nature of the defacing.
